Immigration General Director Addresses Extortion (Pungli) Issue in Jakarta
Jakarta, KORANTRANSAKSI.com – Immigration Director General Hendarsam Marantoko said that it is necessary to investigate the root causes of repeated illegal extortion in immigration offices. Most recently, extortion was found at the Immigration Office Class I Special TPI in Batam.
“I can’t say more at this time, but what’s certain is that the methodology we will use is to first find the root of the problem, and then look for a solution,” Hendarsam said.
He added that his office has already imposed sanctions on officers who committed illegal extortion. “The issue in Batam was immediately responded to by our internal compliance team, and sanctions have already been carried out against those responsible,” Hendarsam said.
According to an official statement from the Immigration Office Class I Special TPI Batam, the incident came to light through an Instagram post by the account @mothershipsg on March 25, 2026, which described allegations of requests for money from Foreign Nationals (WNA) during immigration checks.
The post reported that the incidents were experienced by a Singaporean citizen with the initials AC on March 13, 2026, and a Myanmar citizen with the initials NAY on March 14, 2026.
